Measuring Education Changes Between Generations: Evidence for 52 Developing Countries from 1870 to 2010

Abstract This work measures the education changes between generations for a sample of 52 developing countries (Latin America, 15; Asia and Pacific, 13; Middle East, 6; Africa, 18) from 1870 to 2010. Results show that intergenerational correlations Pearson-Spearman indices in world are higher than ρ = 0.90, with those cases which existing correlation individuals same gender exceeds values 0.95 being especially noteworthy. The OLS estimations 0.67 0.99, Pacific region highest values, Latin America lowest indices. All four regions significantly high level educational transmission generations, this lack mobility appearing be one reason stagnation growth economic development these regions.
